This week on TechtalkRadio, Andy Taylor and Shawn DeWeerd kick things off with a real-time look at severe weather, storm tracking, and the growing role of independent meteorologists on YouTube. Shawn shares how live storm coverage from creator Ryan Hall has changed the way many people follow dangerous weather, offering faster, more detailed updates than traditional local broadcasts in some cases. The conversation also dives into storm preparedness, from generators and backup power to radios, fuel, and having a family plan in place when rough weather rolls in.

The show also revisits one of the week’s most talked-about tech topics: the new MacBook Neo. Andy and Shawn break down the appeal of Apple’s lower-cost laptop, discussing its price point, specs, battery life, and why it could be an attractive option for people who have always wanted to try a Mac without spending a fortune. They also talk about the learning curve for longtime Windows users, the differences in workflow, and why Apple may have found the right moment to push harder into the affordable laptop space..

Shawn, who has long been skeptical of AI, admits he was surprised by how powerful and creative the music-generation platform Suno turned out to be. The two discuss the fun and creative possibilities of AI music tools, while also emphasizing the importance of ethics, transparency, and giving proper credit whenever AI plays a role in the creative process. Later in the show, Andy spotlights the ASUS ProArt PX13 GoPro Edition, a compact but powerful creator laptop designed for video editors and GoPro users, with features like a bright OLED display, strong onboard AI processing with the Ryzen AI Max 395+, 128GB Ram, 1TB Storage along with a built-in jog wheel, and 2-in-1 flexibility for tablet type use.

Andy with Sean Dadashi, co-founder of Rosebud, an AI-powered journaling app designed to make self-reflection easier, more guided, and more meaningful. Sean explains how the idea for Rosebud grew from his own experience with therapy and journaling, where he saw firsthand how difficult it can be for people to stare at a blank page and know where to begin. With Rosebud, users can write or speak their thoughts, then receive thoughtful AI-guided prompts that help them go deeper, recognize patterns, and stay connected to personal goals over time.

Wrapping things up, the show touches on Mario Day March 10th Record Day, Nintendo announcements, and new family-friendly interactive gaming experiences from NEX Playground in the Audiocast, making for a packed episode full of gadgets, AI, entertainment, and practical tech talk.

Segment from KMSB Fox 11

For today’s Segment, last week we looked at some Technology for Getting Back to School with a Laptop and Backpack. This morning it is still back to school with a question from many parents, What Printer to Get! While many classes for students allowing for Digital Submission of reports and essays, printing on paper is still something students will eventually find they need. We will take a look at two very different kinds of technology for printing that document, One Laser Printing and One Inkjet and we will explain the benefits of both.

Photo of the Epson ET2720

First off, printing with Inkjet Technology has changed in big steps with Technology from Epson with the EcoTank. We look at the ET2720. Basically the EcoTank provides an economic advantage to those printing often on the printer which is capable of a variety of colors. In the past many have complained about buying a printer for X amount of dollars to find the ink which needed replacement rather quickly was sometimes more than the printer in replacement! With the EcoTank line, gone is the constant replacing of cartridges, instead, easily fill those cartridges with a supply of Ink to make it happen.

A Consumer can save money this way and according to Epson could be as much as 90%. The Ink that comes with the printers will generally last about 2 years! Each replacement ink bottle will give you about 4500 pages of print, that’s about 80 of those cartridges! The 2720 also can Scan and copy as well as print. Print speeds are going to be around 10Ppm and users can print from iPad, iPhone, Android with Wi-Fi Direct meaning no Wi-Fi Router Required. SRP Epson ET2720 $199.00

If Color is not a requirement and printing faster is something you would be interested in, HP has always been a great resource for Laser ink technology. We look at the HP M118dw.

Using LaserJet technology this Printer produces a faster output, about 30ppm and allows Wireless Printing. Like the Epson, No Network Needed, with the HP Smart App, a User can print directly to the printer from a Smartphone or tablet. When buying replacement toner, check out the estimated page load for toner.

For Example, the HP 92A Replacement will yield about 1200 pages, while the more expensive 94X will have about 2800. Remember also, when you buy a printer you are basically in most cases getting a “sample” amount of ink, the Toner in this will last for about 1000 prints.   The HP LaserJet Pro M118dw retails for about $89.99!

Now for Something Completely Different! In this TechtalkRadio Episode, Justin and Andy begin with a discussion of Monty Pythons Flying Circus and how Netflix has added the shows to its library of entertainment. New shows such as Sam Esmail’s “Homecoming” and the return of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to Amazon Prime are discussed.

Justin and Andy talk about Repairing PC’s and Macs with Today’s Technology. Where can a consumer have a Mac-book repaired? The only solution in most cases for warranty and parts would be through an Apple Certified Repair shop. Not all is rosy with today’s Windows based laptops as many manufacturers have taken away user serviceable areas such as hard drives, memory and even batteries. What are the benefits of building your own PC? Can building your own still be done and which could be more expensive? Local Shops to Tucson like SWS and NOS Computers are great, Justin also recommends the PC Part Picker Website. Are Add-On Sound Cards still required?

Friend of the show, Mitch Goldstone from ScanMyPhotos.Com visits with TechtalkRadio to talk about the service available from the company. Protecting the photos and film from years past is a process made extremely easy with the services of the highly reviewed ScanMyPhotos.Com.  Mitch shares stories of photos which have been preserved in the digital format and why this is also a great gift idea for the holiday season. Technology has advanced the process over the years and in many cases Same Day Scanning is available. This can be great for memorial services or special events. Mitch talks about ScanMyPhotos and why the company takes great pride preserving these images.

Powering a Computer, Do you turn your computer off every night? Is the proper fix for a computer to basically, Turn it off and Turn it on? The guys discuss the idea of rebooting for solving problems. Justin talks about running multiple Operating Systems as a Virtual PC with VMware.

Justin talks about a game called GameDevTycoon from GreenHeart Games. Website of the Week is a look at a product that only because of the Internet could become huge, The Nose Warmer. Don’t Sneeze. The Website is at NoseWarmer.Com

In this Weeks Radio Show, We talk about the Apple Event 2016 with the Unveiling of the new collaborative iWorks, The Apple Watch Series 2 with GPS and the Series 1 with a lower price point. Although without GPS it’s now available for starting around 269. We also look at Apples Role in Connected Classrooms and why maybe this went in a different direction over the past decade. Apple commits to the ConnectED program which is directing Apple technology to the classroom. We couldn’t talk about the Apple Event and not cover iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, much of the focus is on the lack of a headphone port and not towards the fast processor or dual cameras with some nice features we will see with iOS 10, either way, we discuss this and more in this weeks show!

Every other week Andy Taylor of TechtalkRadio visits KMSB Fox 11 to share the latest in Tech and Gadgets for the Consumer and Small Business. In one of our recent segments, Andy talked with Mark Stine about a drive from the Arizona Technology Council to recycle used electronics.

Everything from Big Screen Televisions to Old Computer Towers were recycled in this drive and while the push was on for a set period of time, the effort continues. Check with your local Electronics and Computer dealers on how they can help recycle your older systems.

Locally in the Tucson Area, SWS Electronics and Computers will work with you and recycle your older computers and the Arizona Technology Council may be able to provide an expanded list.

We also shared a very cool product from Apogee Digital for the Desktop which is for recording directly into your iPad, iPhone or Mac. Field Reporting just got a whole bit easier!
