Don’t lose your free OneDrive space! https://blog.techtalkradio.com/dont-lose-your-free-onedrive-space/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=dont-lose-your-free-onedrive-space https://blog.techtalkradio.com/dont-lose-your-free-onedrive-space/#respond Sat, 12 Dec 2015 10:39:23 +0000 http://blog.techtalkradio.com/?p=6089 Read More]]> In the past, Microsoft gave 15 gigabytes (GB) of free storage space to new accounts of their OneDrive service by default. They have changed that policy…

“Free OneDrive storage will decrease from 15 GB to 5 GB for all users, current and new. The 15 GB camera roll storage bonus will also be discontinued. These changes will start rolling out in early 2016.”

If you want to try to keep your 15 GB free storage space, and possibly more, Microsoft has posted:

“…we’re making it possible for you to keep your base storage quota and camera roll bonus, even after the changes roll out.

“Click…and your account will not be affected when the amount of free storage changes from 15 GB to 5 GB and the +15 GB camera roll bonus is discontinued.”

Review: “C6 Screen Cleaners” https://blog.techtalkradio.com/review-carson-optical-c6-screen-cleaners/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=review-carson-optical-c6-screen-cleaners https://blog.techtalkradio.com/review-carson-optical-c6-screen-cleaners/#respond Tue, 29 May 2012 18:27:28 +0000 http://blog.techtalkradio.com/?p=1724 Read More]]> So…I get an e-mail message…

“…The new carbon-based cleaning system won’t damage your expensive glass and revolutionizes the way people clean their lenses…”

Yeah. Whatever.

It arrived…and I am…impressed!

The Carson Optical “C6 Screen Cleaners” press release states: “…The dry compound bonds with the oils left behind by your skin, then simply wipes away leaving a sparkling clean surface.” I also received a pack of two of the CS-50. They look like USB flash drives that you can put on lanyards, but the pad is retractable into the casing.

I always carry clean handkerchiefs…in Arizona, you sweat (a lot). I also use them to clean my reading glasses, and sunglasses. And, I’ve been satisfied with using them to clean glass-like surfaces and screens. OK. Let me see how good this thing is…gone! I used one and ALL of the greasy, streaky, smudgy stuff on the touchscreen of my phone was gone! It’s clean…it’s clear…I’m shocked.

CS-50 – Screen Cleaners, 2-pack. Cleaning system for tablets & smart phones

(The CS-60 is designed to be used with tablet computers…at the time of this writing, I cannot find it on their website.)

The CS-10, CS-20, and CS-40 are similar to the shape and sizes of markers. CS-30, CS-70, and CS-80 are packages of disposable cleaners….the CS-70 also includes a brush for use with camera and binocular lenses.

Yep…this stuff works. You might want to get a couple and keep in your pocket, purse, or bag…

Worms and viruses…via the postal service? https://blog.techtalkradio.com/worms-and-viruses-via-the-postal-service/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=worms-and-viruses-via-the-postal-service https://blog.techtalkradio.com/worms-and-viruses-via-the-postal-service/#respond Mon, 06 Dec 2010 11:06:50 +0000 http://blog.techtalkradio.com/?p=1240 Read More]]> I received an e-mail message stating some products were being sent to me that I had inquired about. When the package arrived, I noticed it had been sent from Hong Kong. Interesting…

What arrived was a “USB Flash Drive with Voice Recording”, and “USB 2-in-1 Web Cam”.

Let’s begin with my experience with the web cam.

USB 2-in-1 Web Cam, Product Code: UWCAM003200

The packaging identifies it as a Minocam High Speed Web Cam. A web cam, flash memory storage device, and…well, I have no idea what the third definitive function is. I was the “2G” version, that has 2 gigabytes worth of storage.

There were many problems.

The USB Type A plug slides in and out of the device. The piece on the side of the web cam, that is used to slide the plug in and out, broke off.

Software for it was provided on a Mini CD. My computer from Alienware was not able to read it. (I recommend NEVER using Mini CDs: they don’t work in all devices.)

I connected the web cam to my computer, and Microsoft Windows Vista had compatible drivers for it. The camera worked…but, the image rendered was as if the lens element had been knocked sideways about 45 degrees. I attempted to adjust the lens, to turn it to see if I could straighten the image, and the lens came off and out of the camera. I was able to see inside of the device. It seems as if a mirror that reflects, or an element that captures, is misaligned.

Software was on the flash drive. I copied it to a folder on my hard drive, and warnings appeared from Microsoft Security Essentials.

After a search via the internet that, I found reports of others that had used the software…and then had problems with Windows Explorer. I did not install the software.

I’ve read about horror stories of devices having malware on them (Seagate had shipped infected drives), as well as embedded in them (digital picture frames sold by Best Buy and Sams Club)…and those are just the two I can remember and mention this moment. I never thought I would have a similar experience. Especially when what I received did not come via a retail channel.

I don’t know who to blame:
the manufacturer…
the promotional agency…
the distributor…
or the Chinese postal service.

The packaging for the web cam was not “secure”…it could have been opened.

The best item of the two is the “USB Flash Drive with Voice Recording“, which I do recommend.

From their website:
“This USB flash drive is not only data storage, but also a voice recorder. You can records any sound into the memory with WAV format. Built-in a rechargeable battery, let you has 5 hours continuous recording…”
