In this Weeks TechtalkRadio Show, We learn a little about Shawn’s Bucc-ees Outfit his mom got him and how Shawn has been traveling for work. Taking a flight on Delta, Shawn was happy to find out that Delta Airlines will hand out trading cards. The guys talk about tracking aircraft if you are traveling or a friend or family member is, you can easily follow the flight using websites and apps such as FlightAware or ADSBExhange. Andy talks about how the web can also help locate aircraft you have possibly flown in and tells the story of how while in Civil Air Patrol he co-piloted a Cessna 172 and was able to locate that aircraft today with the tail number. Microsoft faced an outage earlier in the week on its X-Box Live Service and it serves as a reminder for having physical media instead of relying on the cloud. This applies to Movies and Series we have come to rely on from streaming services. The guys share a couple of ways to make sure you can view your content that you have purchased using MakeMKV and Handbrake as possible resources. Shawn built a Raspberry Pi Media Player for handling digital playback. For Games, so many have only been released Digitally and the guys talk about the last versions they bought for consoles and PC. Shawn tells us about a great Website for Older games, GOG Games has older titles for purchase – Andy wants to get a copy of one he played a lot, RedneckRampage.

Andy started a new project this past week to downsize from the massive Cooler Master HAF932 to a smaller case. This was all in part to begin to move to Windows 11. Using the Asus Z-170A after purchasing the TPM 2.0 Header the goal would be to Upgrade to Windows 11. Andy gets the Fractal G Mid Tower Case and gets everything moved and cleaner. After deciding to do this, he realized with the 480GB with only 60GB left, he would have to update the Drive as well for more space. Andy updates to a 1TB but has an issue in cloning the drive and find Partition Wizard Mini Tool was the solution he needed. This does pose the question of instead of cloning an older drive, reinstalling Windows from scratch gets rid of the bloat. Some points to consider regarding the software are discussed.

The Cooler Master HAF932

RealVNC has eliminated the home plans for the service which enabled connecting to other computers. As Shawn pointed out, this was a great way to take care of family members’ computers remotely. The Cost for the new plan is discussed and the problem with TeamViewer and a Security Breach is discussed. DJI is still under the scrutiny of the US Government and the latest is discussed here and how that would affect this that want to use a drone, The Countering CCP Drone Act could ban the sales of DJI products in the US. Andy gives us a look at the Camp Snap Camera and why many are excited about this very different digital camera. The Screen Free Digital Camera allows the user to experience the taking of the photo and enjoy the moment without looking at what was captured. Gizmodo put together a list of Cool Gadgets for the past month of June, this includes the Insta360 Go 3S which is a small action camera.

In this Weeks TechtalkRadio Show, Justin, Shawn and Andy begin the discussions with a focus on the busy news cycle towards technology after a chat about the Summer Heat and cooling. Justin tells us about the split systems which can do a good job keeping areas cool but also a portable AC Unit. If trying to cool with a Swamp Cooler there are some considerations as they aren’t the best working along Electronics. Another consideration is where a PC or Mac is placed can also affect the performance, years ago companies sold cabinets to hide towers, and these were just not proper airflow. Justin determines he needs to delve into doing more home repair and has been watching videos on YouTube which have been very helpful. Andy used YouTube to help replace a Garbage Disposal Unit. Justin shares the best way to search for the project you want to do. The Crew pivots to the news of Adobe and how the FTC has directed a lawsuit at the company for its difficult process to cancel subscriptions with fees to the consumer when cancelling. Andy shares how he remembers from Aldus Photostyler to Creative Suite you could buy the package and use it till you wanted the new features. The Terms of Service have also been, as covered in last week’s show, Andy has a connection to Photographer Ron Hazelwood on Facebook and reads a post Ron shared regarding the TOS. Other points to consider include PDF’s which could contain sensitive documents. Ron mentions a possible alternative for working with photos, Affinity Photo 2. The Company can be found on the web at https://affinity.serif.com

Justin opens this segment with a discussion on social media and how the Surgeon General of the United States may consider a Warning Label like what we have seen on tobacco. Shawn had pulled away from Socials a couple of years ago and tells us how during the show he reactivated the account to use an Extension to save photos he was tagged in. The extension called Tagged Photo Exporter available in the Google Chrome Store and Shawn tells us how this works. Shawn and Justin both agree on the addictive nature on social platforms and share why many others feel the same way. How will parents need to respond to this and how will this help alter the time spent while the child is online. Shawn and Justin share how they have applied these guidelines.

Shawn tells us how he believes in the distant future, a Youth Digital Rebellion and tells us what that means. His wife shared a story how a friend’s child had loved the idea of online shopping, in person. While it doesn’t play as good on the radio, Andy shares a Meme about how times have shared. Andy shares the reminder of your digital products in the car or trunk of the vehicle. A good reminder to take the gear to a cooler area and the pull the Dash Cams instead of leaving them in the hot sun. Wells Fargo has caught employees using Mouse Jigglers and the guys talk about this story circulating the web, PC World has put together a great article on how to turn off Recall on Co-Pilot + PC.s. Justin takes us through the innovative controls within the Model Y, highlighting the blend of novelty and convenience that owners experience. Ever wondered about the impressive speed of Tesla vehicles? Justin unravels the distinctions between traditional cars and Teslas, shedding light on their remarkable performance.

In the discussion we Discover the modern way of purchasing a Tesla exclusively through an app, a process that was meticulously tailored for Justin and his spouse. The journey was thrilling until the unfortunate turn of events about 3 and a half weeks later when the Tesla was ready and they drove it off the Tesla location. The excitement transformed into frustration as a faulty sensor came to light meaning the first repair was needed, almost 7 miles into the first drive. With this return to the repair facility, it did lead to a first-hand account of the repair process, captured by the vehicle’s onboard cameras. The info Justin shared surprised all of us,

Shifting gears, no pun intended, DJI takes the spotlight with the introduction of the DJI OSMO 4, an action camera poised to rival the GoPro Hero 11. Shawn breaks down the standout features of this new release, while Andy provides clarity on the significance of megapixels in relation to sensor size, an often misconstrued aspect. Dive into the competitive landscape between DJI and GoPro, exploring their evolution in the drone market, including the GoPro Karma’s role in the narrative. The hosts also examine the transformative journey of the action camera sector over time.

Andy’s exploration of the EK-7000 Akaso Action Camera offers a window into its features, with a recommendation for young users to consider it as their first action camera. In the realm of gaming, Justin shares a comprehensive review of Baldur’s Gate 3, emphasizing its unconventional RPG gameplay that sparks strategic thinking. The game’s launch garnered significant attention on Steam, with over 900,000 players engaging. The hosts discuss the minimum requirements for optimal gameplay.

In the spirit of retro gaming, Justin introduces us to a captivating website of the week: https://www.adarkroom.doublespeakgames.com. This text-based adventure harks back to the nostalgia of games like Zork, offering a unique interactive experience reminiscent of classic gaming narratives.

This Week’s Episode Now Posted! Episode #366 – Is Resistance Futile? https://blog.techtalkradio.com/this-weeks-episode-now-posted-episode-366-is-resistance-futile/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=this-weeks-episode-now-posted-episode-366-is-resistance-futile Mon, 29 May 2023 03:52:47 +0000 https://blog.techtalkradio.com/?p=9292 Read More]]>

In this week’s show, Shawn and Andy discuss recent issues they had with Streaming while on with the Metacast Podcast earlier in the Week which works into a discussion on Tech Support and how easy it is to troubleshoot new Tech versus what we had to do 15 years ago. Andy tells the story of how phone calls came into Radio Shows and got on the air compared to tech today from VoxPro and other companies. Shawn and Andy talk about how technology in Education changed from Mac systems to PC’s. Some employers are looking for workers that understand AI and how to work with it. Andy talks about how we could see AI used in Radio Broadcasting and even Television Newscasting and points out Synthesia at https://www.synthesia.io and how training videos could all be done using that platform. How will sports be influenced by AI and the predictability of plays viewed by opposing teams.

Andy talks about some products he featured on KMSB Fox 11. Kingston sent over an Ironkey 200 Flash drive with AES 256 Encryption and Military Grade Security to protect the device from prying eyes or in the event of a loss of the drive. After 10 Attempts to enter a password incorrectly, the drive will wipe its data off the drive and make it unrecoverable. Sizes vary from 8GB to 128GB. This also serves as a good reminder to never plug in a USB Flash Drive that you “find.” as it could compromise your system or even damage circuitry. Andy also shared a USB diskette Reader from Tandek that he shared on the Segment. Shawn feels there may at some point a Digital Revolution with consumers wanted content.

Shawn looks at the new Adobe Photoshop Beta with Generative Fill which uses AI to fill a background or part of an Adobe stock image with artificial intelligence and is very impressed with the results. What’s also nice is that while some programs use AI to complete images, this will stay within the Adobe Family pulling images only from Adobe Stock Images.

Shawn and Andy share a great website for learning more about working with Photoshop and Graphics programs. https://www.phlearn.com The host also goes into a more in depth discussion on the Generative Fill Tool.

In this week’s episode, Justin, Andy, and Shawn come together to deliver a public message about the perils of outdoor activities and the importance of embracing life to the fullest, inside on the Computer, inspired by Justin’s personal experience. Justin recounts his adventurous endeavor of venturing outdoors, only to encounter an unfortunate incident where his well-built bicycle lost a wheel, causing him to take a tumble over the handlebars. Undeterred, he charmingly narrates his mishap as a tale akin to becoming Iron Man, sharing it with his son. Justin hopes that a neighbor captured the incident on their Ring Cam.

The conversation then shifts towards the use of Peleton for virtual indoor cycling and the recent challenges faced by the brand. Shawn introduces Holofit from Holodia.com, an innovative virtual reality fitness solution that offers alternative workout experiences without leaving the comfort of home.
