Selfies Can Lead to Death

We hear the warnings all the time! “Be careful when texting!” It’s pretty darn obvious you shouldn’t text when driving, sadly – many states and cities had to create laws to stem the flow of dingleheads texting while hurtling down the road at 70mph!!

This morning we learned of a couple of deaths while taking Selfies, another issue using the camera while doing anything!!

A Husband and Wife recently fell to their deaths while taking a “Selfie” of themselves while Vacationing in Portugal at the Cliffs at Cabo Da Roca, the couple had two children that were there and were taking into protective care until relatives could come take care of the kids. Tragic. It’s not the first time this has happened with death during selfies but hopefully with awareness, the last.

Nice to Know its There!

restoreIt’s been a while since I have worked with a “Rack System” or computer that comes from a manufacturer such as Dell or HP. Most of the time when I am working on a system it may be one I have built or am in the process of building. When I do build a system, the customer receives the Windows disc and not a partition on the hard drive for recovering.

I know over the years the idea of a few CD’s or even the massive amount of 1.44 Floppy’s have gone the wayside. This is frustrating to the consumer that re installs the computer often and wants to have the physical discs. I have liked the way laptops have used the special partitions that allow an easy F Key combo usually and  restore the computer to factory specs. Many computer manufacturers have started to do this with desktops however to have your own recovery disc, you need to sit with a backup and create one when your system arrives.

I recently worked on a Dell Inspiron 3847 and was pleased to see the install of a back up and recovery program which allowed me to have the system make a Bootable USB Drive with Restore capabilities. Very Handy and finished rather quickly in making this bootable which can be stored away for a later date!

Are You a DVR Hoarder?

A recent article found on the Verizon Website points at trends in use for consumers with DVR Service and discovered there are battles brewing over DVR Hoarding in households.  Let’s face it, DVR’s can only store so much and even though OnDemand services may offer the same programs you recorded – having a full season of a favorite show stored on the DVR’s Storage drive is almost as nice as your DVD Collection on display for all to see.

It takes some of us back to the days of Video Cassette Recorders and trying to find a tape to record a special event or show, trying to make the decision to record over a program already recorded on the Video Cassette. Now fellow family members have to decide which shows to delete when they receive the DVR Storage message. At least with DVR technology, a Wedding Video isn’t getting erased.

Even though Hard Drives in DVR Boxes have gotten larger, Cable and Satellite providers have been feeding on consumers desire to record a multitude of channels and in HD which can rack up some serious storage. The battles will rage on as more is done to increase storage and delivery methods. Check out this very interesting article on the Verizon Website
