KMSB Segment – Getting a Great Deal on a Laptop

Our KMSB Fox 11 Segment, Sharing the Great Deal we found on the Lenovo Y530

In the Past few months we have shown a couple of Low Cost Budget Systems for our segment on KMSB Fox 11 Daybreak. If you are wanting a powerful system for mobile technology, IE: Laptops and maybe have a few few extra “bucks” to spend, the time is right to get a great deal on a Laptop with power that I often refer to as Desktop Replacements.

The Lenovo Y530

These “Gaming Laptops” are loaded with Power, performance and storage. With systems set to be offered in the months leading up to Black Friday, asking the clerk at your electronics store what In Store Offers are available could lead to a satisfying surprise. But you have to ask. We take a look at one of these systems and what users expecting more from Technology should be looking at. We featured the Lenovo Legion Y530.

KMSB Showing the Lenovo Y530

We were able to get in on the In Store Pricing and saved a bundle! To give you an idea, The Price on the Lenovo Website was set at around 1100.00, The Website Advertised Price at a Big Box Retailer had it at 899.00, by asking we were able to pick this up for 650.00, Not a Refurbished or Floor Model but a special in store price.

The Lenovo Y530 Features what you should be looking for with a Desktop Replacement, 15.6 Inch 1920×1080 Screen, Backlit Keyboard, 8GB of Memory, GeForce GTX 1050 Graphics card, capable of today’s games and an Intel Core i7 Processor.  It has a Wide Variety of Ports. 3 USB 3.0, 1 USB Type C, 1 HDMI Output, We were happy with the Battery Life, about 5-6 hours, it features Bluetooth as well. With this Model, Buyers receive a One Year Manufacturers Warranty on Parts and Labor. Duel fans on the Botton help to keep the system running cool.

The Only downside is No Serviceable Ports, which is a trend, however we did “Open it Up” and switch out the “Spinny Drive” to an SSD.

USB Ports on the Targus Laptop Cooler

If You are Looking to use a laptop that seems to get hot? Targus and other companies make cooling pads, docks for extending the USB Capabilities AND keeping your systems cooler, We take a look at this as well!

Smart Houses and security is discussed. Shawn tells us why he doesn’t want a smart home and wants to have the privacy maintained without giving up piece of mind. VPN, what does it mean for users that want to connect to the internet. Many talk and technology shows feature ads for VPN but do most listeners even know what the tech is and what it protects? The guys explain how it works. A big question that is asked often regarding keeping computers powered on, do they leave it on at night? Shawn talks about his Theater Room and some of the finer points of the technology for a great picture and sound.

Andy works on a HP Desktop computer with some big issues. The decision was made to keep the programs yet make some upgrades to the system. The guys talk about how users can streamline systems and with basic maintenance keep the systems running smoothly. Desktop Icons is one thing but full files, documents and photos and full folders on the desktop can slow the system, the guys talk about why. Another change to the system can be made to update to an SSD drive from a traditional spinning platter drive. Acronis True Image 2020 makes it possible to clone the drive to make it easier to not have to reinstall all the programs. Star Wars Digital Downloads – Just what are the Extras?

Star Wars Digital Download Available 4102015
Banner for the Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

There is going to be a great deal of complaints from some of the fans of the Star Wars franchise who would love to see the Original Star Wars films released “As Is”

This would include the 1977 Era capabilities of visual effects which even for its time were handled so perfectly. I have already read some twitter post and facebook comments that the “Originals” should be released and even though the story itself doesn’t change some would like to relive the experience of sitting in the theaters back from 1977 through Return of the Jedi with the films as they saw it.

For me, it was Star Wars, it was the Edwards Newport Theater on a Sunday Afternoon. I didn’t even want to see this movie! My parents dropped me off  and made me see it. For everybody, that same description came from that opening sequence, the jaw dropping Star Destroyer flying over head and the complete confusion of not knowing what was happening. Later I would learn from a TED Talk with JJ Abrams – This is what “That Box” is all about. Another reason I am so excited JJ is shooting the latest film.

Some will still want that original experience, an argument that will probably continue for years to come.

When George Lucas set out for the first Star Wars film, there were limitations as to what could be done. It was a huge undertaking that almost cause the halt in production of the film due to its budget. I’ve heard stories of the power struggle at Fox during the production and the story behind the scenes is equally as interesting as the tale of Luke Skywalker in a galaxy far far away.

I have always wanted to see the Star Wars films at home in the High Definition technology of today. I am very happy that Fox, Disney and Lucasfilm have agreed to partner and make these remastered Digital Downloads available and from what I have seen preview wise, it is amazing!

Another nice feature of these Digital Downloads will be the extra’s that come with it.
