Periscope – Who’s Watching

I’ve heard quite a bit about Periscope over the past few months and finally decided to pull the trigger and see what it’s all about. I like to check out new social media tools when they pop up to see just how different they are with the many options available to us “User Folk”

Periscope can be a total blast and has been built with the concept of “Periscoping” the user experience through the smart phone. Although some of the uses, even myself, have been for engaging interaction among the viewers in a virtual chat room which runs on top of your video while you shoot it – No Editing, It’s all Live.

One of the best uses for the Periscope service was a video I checked out yesterday of a Surfer Mitch Oates ( @lifeatseaphoto ) with his device attached to his surfboard! Great Live Video but a good way to go through phones! There’s another Periscoper that covers just about everything she does, Tasmin Lucia Khan (@Tasmin) riding in cabs, cooking breakfast and putting on makeup..I know, compelling right? Actually she is, the fact she engages the audience is refreshing. We used to do that a lot in Music Radio. šŸ™

Share It with the world, make it available to select friends and even save it to your camera roll! Just don’t point it at the TV during say “Game of Thrones” or during a Pay Per View event – This has been an Issue in the Past.

Check out Periscope which is owned by Twitter after a nice payout of about $100 Million Ā dollars (Did Dr. Evil handle that deal?) If you have a Periscope please let us know so we can check it out! Follow us Andy Taylor @techtalkradio

Grand Theft Auto V for PC Available TODAY!

210x176I have to wonder what RockStar Games is doing to me! Releasing a highly anticipated game title with one day left for the Tax Deadline! I wonder how many gamers will flip the coin today!?

When you hear the title “Grand Theft Auto” You generally know this is a game that has a history of violence and situations that should only be operated by an adult. The very successful franchise continues to this day and technically it is not just a thrown together schlock fest, it couldn’t be – Ā Gamer’s wouldn’t go for it.

A successful Video Game Franchise will come from the loyalty of the gaming crowd that in turn will expect high end graphics and fluid game play and that is what the good folks at Rockstar Games are handing out. Today the company announced the availability of Grand Theft Auto V for PC at Retail or Digital Download through Steam and Rockstar.

Death and Facebook…

It’s that subject that nobody really wants to talk about however it is something that is being addressed and can provide a little piece of mind to Facebook Users on what happens to a users Facebook account when the unfortunate happens. Today, Facebook introduced what they are calling Legacy Contacts.

Users can easily choose a legacy contact, either a member of the family or a friend that can manage the account of a Facebook User when that user passes away. Again, a great deal of trust would need to be exercised as that person has the power to notify of the passing, Facebook will then Memorialize the account and allow the Legacy Contact Chosen to “Write a post to display at the top of the memorialized Timeline (for example, to announce a memorial service or share a special message), Respond to new friend requests from family members and friends who were not yet connected on Facebook Update the profile picture and cover photo.”

According to a release from Facebook, The legacy contact will not be able to log in as the person who passed away or see that personā€™s private messages. Facebook staff has stated this was done after talking to members who experienced loss and wanted to offer more to those grieving than the basic memorialized viewable only accounts offered in the past.

All of this is not required and the option is also available for Facebook Users to elect to just have the account deleted upon their passing. This is all coordinated through the settings tab, then the security tab. Users will see Legacy Contacts as pictured in our screen capture this morning.
