Episode 398 – Better Than a Colonoscopy! Now Available to Stream

In this Weeks TechtalkRadio Show, the Entire crew is on hand Andy, Justin, Shawn, Slick and Matt. Andy notices that most of the crew looks solemn and serious while Justin notes that the scowls look similar to the face after drinking a pre-colonoscopy beverage. Either way they press on and kick off with the Apple Announcements of the New M4 Chip which will in available in the new iPad Pro from Apple. Shawn tells us how his parents which travel have reduced their Technology to an iPad and love the experience of its portability and ease of use. As tablets become more powerful and feature rich, Matt and Justin share how it is viable to use Tablets as replacements for Notebooks or even desktop systems due to the power of Software and Services and connectable Bluetooth folios or keyboards to them tablets.  

Andy notes how the Tablets can be an Entertainment Portal with all the Streaming Services. He also shares a recent product he shared on News13, the Logitech Universal Folio which can hold most tablets in place in a foldable case which features a Bluetooth keyboard.  The guys share some good uses for tablets while Andy focuses on the Broadcasting Aspect in a software called Zetta from RCS. Andy hasn’t had an IPAD since Generation 2, Matt talks about how when he worked for Apple, he was happy with the functionality of the iPad’s and sees how far they have come. Slick uses different tablets and shares his experience with them including one with a strange memory configuration. Shawn has found good use for an older iPad Mini and uses that for his Plex Server. Justin uses his older tablets for Home Assistant. The New IPAD Pro 11′ and 13′ upon the announcement was immediately available to Order from Apple.  

Listener Brian visits a Yard Sale and picks up an used Western Digital My Book for 15 bucks but wants to know how to be protected when taking it home and wanting to use it. The guys talk about the good call that Brian is questioning plugging hardware into the computer and the dangers that could go along with it. Some possible solutions are covered. Justin shares the worst solution which has us in stiches with the reminder, don’t do this at home. There are other problems that could come up buy used storage beyond Malware which offers a bad scenario to consider. Matt gives us a safe legal solution.  

Roberta in Tucson is thinking about cutting the cord and wants to know about switching from Cable to YouTube TV in comparison to her Cable/Internet Provider.  Shawn gives us the basics of how the YouTube TV Service works. Shawn tells us how the Cloud DVR Service works and how YouTube TV does not require converter boxes. Local Channels are available based on IP in most cases. According to Justin, the programming guide is much better than what the cable company provides. What is needed is Hi-Speed internet, a Smart TV or Device such as Roku, Fire Stick Etc. Money Saving would be more than likely and up to three simultaneous streams could be used.  The subject shifts to shopping in Best Buy and helping customers which also conjures memories for Matt.  When it comes to saving money, Matt talks about an Introduction plan for YouTube TV that is available and what you shouldn’t see on your bill. A 7 Day Free Trial should allow enough time to see if it would work for Roberta before cutting the cord.  

Andy talks about CNET’s Jessica Fiero and articles she has been doing surrounding the Apple Watch and Fitness. One article shared how she noticed her relation to health had changed when looking at the results it was guiding her to do even better. After Andy’s recent procedure he decided to invest in the Apple Watch and is also enjoying the experience. Justin shares his respect for the Apple Watch and those health features. He also reminds us that Samsung and Pixel do also offer Watches. There was some confusion as to the Cellular version and Andy shares how the Cellular version is basically a smart phone on your wrist which can act independent of the smart phone while the non-cell version will still interact with an iPhone. Similar to Andy’s situation, Shawn shares his dad was able to use his HSA Account to purchase the Apple Watch due to the fact it is certified as a medical device in recording Hyper Tachycardia.

New Episode #355 – Don’t Leave home Without it!

In this Weeks TechtalkRadio Show Andy talks with Justin about the early computers they had and how far the technology of personal computers has come along. Andy tells us about a repair on the Dell 7779 Inspiron which had him frustrated at all the steps just to replace the keyboard. After the complete overhaul, Andy ran into Bitlocker which was enabled however the owner of the laptop did not have the recovery key. A few changes in the Bios enabled this to be bypassed but it was on pins and needles to get to that point. Justin tells us about a problem with his Pixel Watch and a crack that appeared on it and the problems he ran into getting it fixed, it can’t be! Luckily, he purchased with American Express, Justin tells us why! Rick leaves us a comment on our Facebook Page about getting a Secret Labs chair after Justin had mentioned it and how Rick feels about it.

Friend of the Show Mitch Goldstone of ScanMyPhotos.com talks with Andy about preserving photos and film and how they can turn around scanning in one day in most instances with one day scanning and how they provide the expert touch on Slide Carousels and Super 8MM film which digitizes individuals frames. Mitch also shares a warning for those with VHS tapes and another reason they should be preserved. Mitch was able to attend CES2023 and tells us about the show including what the United States Post Office is doing to energize Postage Stamps.

Andy talks with Dijam Panigrahi, Co-Founder of AR/VR GridRaster on the hopes that Apple was going to be more involved in AR/VR. The discussion on Augmented Reality focuses on how companies will employ this technology in the future and where the industry is now. GridRaster works to develop the solutions for companies large and small and Dijam tells us about the importance in design. What is the biggest challenges facing further Development of AR/VR is discussed.

New Show Posted #348 – Justin’s New Pixel Watch

In this Weeks Show Justin returns after a couple of weeks out along with Shawn and Andy. Justin tells us about the loss of the family cat and a service called Caring Pathways which made the sad experience a little easier to deal with. Shawn talks about the origins of his son’s name Max which allows Andy to share info on Emil Minty, the Young Feral Kid from Mad Max (Road warrior) who in Australia bought a Mustang Interceptor only available in that country. Andy shares info on a former Ford Engineer that is building a 1967 Shelby GTO from the ground up and selling them under license from Ford. The guys talk about how the internet has made it easy to buy parts for your cars. Justin tells us about his new Google Pixel watch. Justin shares some of the features of this new smart watch which left him a little underwhelmed. One of the features he wishes he had was a larger watch face although having the watch equipped with LTE is a feature he really likes.

Justin takes a train for a nice getaway, however, wasn’t the best experience and shares what the problems centered around including a situation that seems like it could have gone worse then it did. Justin tells us about the technology of a train trip and using internet services on board. The guys talk about Starlink and how it is being rolled out for Commercial Aviation meanwhile Google Fiber is going to be maxing out around 8GB Up and Down. Shawn shares some record setting in Internet Speeds with the fastest data transmission at 1.84 Petabits per second. What would be the limitations of this? New Episode #346 – Seeing The Light!?

In this Weeks Show Justin joins Shawn and Andy fresh from his trip to Japan. This doesn’t stop Justin from sharing what he missed about the Apple announcements recently. While Shawn and Andy are excited at what is available from Apple, Justin is very skeptical. Justin tells us about the upcoming announcements from Google regarding Nest, Pixel and Pixel Watch. Shawn talks about some of the products he has from Wyze and answers the question, If Wyze had a Home Assistant, would Shawn get one? He shares why he answered the way he did. Andy isn’t happy with the timelines for smartphone releases and shares why he feels it has become ridiculous. Justin shares some thoughts on the upcoming 4000 series graphics card. Andy takes apart a small little tchotchke he once got from Western Digital, it runs on battery and is still running!

Andy has a tech question for Shawn and Justin regarding a failed Windows Update. Andy shares the problems around this and wonders if updating to a fresh install or new system is going to be the solution. Justin tells us about traveling to Japan and putting together some videos using Tik Tok. Andy has finally fully transferred his info for 1password and just as he was willing to give up Shawn told Andy just to let it take on, which was great advice.
