E3 – Not all about the Software!

I had the chance to talk to some friends from SteelSeries today about some of the products they will be sharing on the show floor when E3 Officially opens tomorrow. The Electronic Entertainment Expo opens its doors to the crowds of industry representatives and the media June 10th and runs through the 13th at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

SteelSeries continues to develop accessories for the PC and Console Gamer with everything from Keyboards, Gaming Mice and awesome headsets. One product announced that can help your game play which is different from the traditional products in the company line is the SteelSeries “Sentry” Eye-Tracker

The SteelSeries “Sentry” Eye-Tracker has been developed in conjunction with Tobii Technology.  Gamers benefit with this device with a tracking of eye movements and shares that data with the user as bench-marked and compared to the movements of professional gamers.  The SteelSeries press release explains it easier:

“The SteelSeries Sentry Eye Tracker brings players an entirely new way to train for competitive gaming, by allowing the player to analyze a wide range of statistics based on where and how long a user focused, or fixated, on the screen. Fixations per Minute (FPM) tracks how often a user moves his or her eye gaze and attention around the screen; low values indicate that the gamer is able to process a lot of information. For comparison, FPM in eye tracking is the same type of correlation as APM or the total numbers of actions per minute a player can perform.”  While we could say it’s all in the wrist, obviously from this addition to E3, it’s also in the eyes.

Are You a DVR Hoarder?

A recent article found on the Verizon Website points at trends in use for consumers with DVR Service and discovered there are battles brewing over DVR Hoarding in households.  Let’s face it, DVR’s can only store so much and even though OnDemand services may offer the same programs you recorded – having a full season of a favorite show stored on the DVR’s Storage drive is almost as nice as your DVD Collection on display for all to see.

It takes some of us back to the days of Video Cassette Recorders and trying to find a tape to record a special event or show, trying to make the decision to record over a program already recorded on the Video Cassette. Now fellow family members have to decide which shows to delete when they receive the DVR Storage message. At least with DVR technology, a Wedding Video isn’t getting erased.

Even though Hard Drives in DVR Boxes have gotten larger, Cable and Satellite providers have been feeding on consumers desire to record a multitude of channels and in HD which can rack up some serious storage. The battles will rage on as more is done to increase storage and delivery methods. Check out this very interesting article on the Verizon Website

Latest Video – Our Segment from 04/21/2014

In this segment from KMSB Fox 11 Daybreak, We featured a couple of products which might be a nice idea for Mothers Day. While we had some of the TechtalkRadio Staff snicker and tell me I was off on the Keyboard as a gift , a few female friends have gone so far to tell me if I gave them a keyboard they would smack me over the head with it.

This is until of course that I show them what the Logitech Harmony keyboard is capable of and after a few minutes and a demo I am assured I won’t get rapped over the head with the keyboard.

While giving a keyboard to your wife or girlfriend might not be the thing during Valentines, hopefully Mom won’t get upset and enjoy the keyboard which integrates with the Media Center found common in many homes and eliminate 4 or 5 different remotes!

There was no argument when it came to the Asus MeMo Pad 7 HD which offers a variety of colors, including Hot Pink, and at a price point below $150, delivers with great looking video and features for mobile users. Again, showed this to a few of my female friends and they loved not only the tech element of the Asus Memo Pad 7 HD but also one of the apps called Mirror, which can be used to check makeup (The Forward Facing Camera). Front and Rear Cameras and not to huge, this is also a nice idea for Mom who has been wanting a tablet.

Take a look at the segment from Daybreak with Mark Stine of KMSB Fox 11.

Recycling – The Effort Continues

Apple has posted a brilliant video on its website with the concept of opening eyes to energy and water conservation. The Company joins other computer and tech companies that answers the need to recycle. Locally in Tucson, one of the largest Computer Specialty company SWS Electronics and Computers recycles systems that come into their location.

Apple is now recycling as well as its Apple Stores. The company will take in Apple products that are still in good shape and working and depending on the product, may issue a store credit. Maybe it’s not working? No problem, at least they might take it off your hands!
