free games until December 15: Nightmares from the Deep, and Stand O’Food

G5 Entertainment has made the game “Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart, Collector’s Edition” available for free on many devices…until December 15th:

“In Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart, you’ll follow the story of an ancient pirate with a forbidden passion. The pirate was cursed and died. His soul never found rest without the accompaniment of his long-lost love.

“You begin this adventure-hybrid game as the director of a nautical museum buzzing with excitement over its newest exhibit: the mummified remains of the notorious 18th century pirate, Captain Remington. In a twist of the supernatural, the pirate awakens and kidnaps her daughter and makes off with her aboard his ghost galleon to his hideout on Skull Island. You soon find yourself aboard his ship, bargaining with skeletons for a map and listening, enthralled, to an undead dwarf as he recounts an unlikely story of romance. You’ll travel throughout the Caribbean to some numerous locals as you try to lift the curse and discover more about this ghostly pirate along the way. It’s a tale of murder and mayhem upon the high seas and you help to make the story right, in the end.

“Gameplay is a bountiful blend of exploration, mini-games, and a choice between hidden object searches or mahjong solitaire. While you can complete the game in a traditional hidden object game fashion, exploring the game’s 45 locations and playing its 39 hidden hidden object scenes, you can also switch to a Mahjong-style mini-game where you’ll take items from hotspots and can use them elsewhere in the game, like in its 16 puzzles or mini-games.”

It’s available for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, Mac…and Nook!

I got a message that they’re also giving away another game…

“…Stand O’Food, will be available at absolutely no charge to iOS players…through December 15th…

“In Stand O’Food players have to feed a host of hungry patrons before they leave in a huff! The game offers you to choose between Quest mode and Lunch Rush mode, more than 100 levels to complete and more than 80 receipts of sandwiches to try your hand at. Slap together burgers and cook up some bacon as quickly as you can! But it’s not all about speed – you’ve also got to plan ahead. Put the sandwiches together in the correct sequence, and set yourself up so you can make the next sandwich without difficulty. Earn money to purchase condiments and upgrade your equipment to serve tastier food even faster than before…”

The HD has a dual-core processor; the HDX tablets have quad-core processors.  I can tell the difference in performance of the two types…maybe because I can be consided a “power user” of all kinds of technology (computers, phones, and tablets)  and tend to push them to their limits.  If you intend on using them in in situations that pertain to heavy video and graphic uses…get the quad-core units.

What’s more impressive to me, is the enhancement to Amazon Prime:

“Prime members can now download hundreds of Prime Instant Video movies and TV shows to watch anywhere—on a plane, on vacation, or in the car. Prime Instant Video is the only U.S. online video subscription streaming service that offers offline viewing, and it’s included at no additional cost.”

======================================

After composing this post, I found viewing Amazon Prime content offline has been available via iOS:

“Download purchased and rented videos from Your Video Library for offline viewing on airplanes, road trips, or when a Wi-Fi connection is unavailable…

“…Requires iOS 5.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch…”

Free antennas for (almost) everybody! Kinda…

Some people in certain television markets cannot watch the CBS television network on their Time Warner Cable service. CBS and TWC are having a dispute…

========================================

“Time Warner Cable has a limited quantity of basic indoor antennas available for free, to be picked up at our retail cable stores in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Los Angeles/Desert Cities, New York, plus Milwaukee and Green Bay in Wisconsin….these basic indoor antennas…will likely only work for customers whose CBS station originates in one of those cities, and who are within a short distance of the station’s transmitter.

“…we have partnered with Best Buy in those cities to provide $20 toward the purchase of any in-stock broadcast antenna at select Best Buy store locations.

“Antenna offer limited to current Time Warner Cable customers….Limited quantity available…limit 1 per customer while supplies last.”
