New Episode #349 – That Graphics Card is Smoking!

In this Weeks Show Justin, Shawn and Andy talk about how Justin had to buy an iPad Air for a Work Project and while Shawn and Andy love products in the iPad and Mac line, he wasn’t all that jazzed to do so yet admits due to the logistics this was the only way to go. Andy talks about the iPad and how Artist can really create with the devices and shares info on Wacom and why he would love to have the Cintiq. Andy’s daughter had broken her iPad and he shares how iFixIt is a great way to go to self-repair the iPad. The guys talk about the latest from Twitter and Elon Musk. Some of the problems of Twitter are discussed by the guys while Andy shares the importance of selectivity of who you allow to follow or follow yourself. A Change in the “Blue Check Mark” system has some very upset at suddenly paying for the service for Verification. Some wonder if this could signal the end of active social media. Shawn tells us his story about leaving Facebook and why he did it.

Shawn talks about Building or Upgrading a PC and wonders if we wanted to buy a RTX4090 but shares some of the problems with melted cords on the latest video cards. The guys talk about choosing your hardware and Andy wonders if we tend to buy based on hype or higher price for systems. Andy has fallen in love with his iPhone 14 ProMax that was provided by Apple but wants to return it and buy his own but now the 14 ProMax is not available, on back order, for a couple of weeks. Andy does share a strange problem that happened with the Pro Max. The new Face ID system locked him out when he had the phone in his pocket. He got the Message iPhone Unavailable, Try again in 49 Minutes. It’s a security feature to prevent logging in if somebody else had your phone. Andy tells us about the solution which really was either to Erase the phone and start over or wait the required time. Shawn tells us about his forgotten Time Lapse, he set up the camera and it ran for 11 days shot with an older GoPro Hero 3 . You can view the Time lapse on our blog at blog.techtalkradio.com

The guys share the very awesome website for building your own system, PCPartsPicker at https://www.pcpartspicker.com and why this is one of the best sites for getting a system together. Andy shares a silly website for wasting time, https://www.screamintothevoid.com as the guy’s call, Therapy.

A reminder…

“Microsoft is making Windows 10 available as a free upgrade for compatible devices that are running genuine Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or Windows 8.1 Update.

“The free upgrade is a full version of Windows (not a trial or introductory version) and is available until July 29, 2016. Once you upgrade, you’ll have Windows 10 for free on that device.”

We discussed the possibilities of what can happen to social networking accounts of people who are dead. Here are some webpages that might be helpful to browse:

Video editing software interviews…

On our January 16 show…

Andy introduces us to Vizmato: “a mobile video editor that allows the user to record, edit, and share customized videos with motion graphics, background theme music, visual effects, and video and audio filters.”

(At 28 minutes in the show,) S!ick explains how he lost his Twitter username…and $144,000…

The producer of the documentary “Debugging Diversity” talks about how the pioneers of Computer Science were women, why men tend to be the authors of software, and the gender gap in technology…

And how ProDRENALIN can enhance video that has been recorded with a camera designed for “action” and sports: automatically removing fisheye and perspective distortion, stabilize images, correct “rolling-shutter”, de-noise the video, correct color, adjust brightness/contrast, rotating the video, and more.

(I’m) Up (on) Periscope!…

Andy has been bugging me…(this time) about using Periscope.

In one of the posts on our blog I stated I was waiting for something to be done by personnel at Periscope. It was to change my username. You can now follow me at “Slick1”.

My thanks to the “Periscope people” (Nader/Jamie/all) for being nice to look into the issue for me. Some of our conversations is posted below…

Dear Periscope Team,

I assumed I would be allowed to use my Twitter name with Periscope…

Is there any possibility I can request to have “slick” assigned to me?

Hi…

We are now able to change usernames on our end. Please note that this is a one-time request. We have alerted our team this is a feature users want for the future. In order to change your username, please provide the following: 1. Provide your current username. 2. Confirm what you would like as your new username. (No spaces or special characters.) 3. Provide your Twitter account or phone number. Once we have the above information, we will do our best to help you out.
