New Show Posted! Episode #351 Ripping the Band-Aid Off – Time to Upgrade!

In this Weeks Show Justin, Shawn and Andy start the show talking about Shawn getting ready to install his Synology NAS System. Shawn is testing drives he purchased with HD Tune Pro which can tell how long a drive has been in use and other useful info. Justin tells us why Synology is much more then just extending storage on the system but can also be used to run a multitude of services such as Docker which can then run PiHole, DNS Blackhole, Minecraft Server, Virtual Machines and more including his Plex Server which can always run under the Synology. The guys talk about Plex and how the service has grown over the years. Shawn and Justin both did the lifetime sub for Plex, and the guys recommend this as a way to go. Cord Cutters can use HD Homerun for recording Over the Air Television and use it like a DVR and can be served over the Plex Server. The newest product from Silicon Dust is the HD Homerun 4K. Justin explains why OTA delivers a better picture then Cable. Shawn tells us about the Latest Time lapse, and it included some snow! We learn a bit on how he creates these great looking Time Lapse creations and some software to help called LRTimeLapse which Shawn feels is one of the best.

Justin reminds us about data collection and how we are the product and why your browser will feed you ads based on information you searched for. With this info, Justin shares info on Network Chuck and how he explains how you could create your own Search Engine using SearxNG. Justin recommends NotGoogle.live created by Network Chuck. Andy talks about migrating a Windows 10 system with corruption in Windows which was preventing Windows Update from completing. Users purchased a new system with Windows 11. Rather than reinstall all the programs and must relink the Database to network drives, reconnect printers, Andy purchased Laplink PCMover Professional and while the time to do was about 5 hours it worked flawlessly!

The crew talks about some of the many different versions of Windows over the years and what they liked while Andy has been banned from talking about Windows 8. Shawn lets us know that Windows 8.1 support is ending January 10th, 2023. Shawn and Justin talks about making the move for listeners to Upgrade while Shawn also decides to try doing an install of Windows 8.1 to see if it was really as bad as a lot said. Shawn, Justin and Andy talk about Cyber Monday and each shares a tip to be safe shopping online.

Justin talks about getting back into Cyberpunk2077 from CDProjekt Red and how much better the title has gotten since its first release and why.

A blizzard type storm runs through Denver where Justin is based in and he tells us about preparations for the storm. The guys talk about Weather Reporting and Sites for gathering information on weather. Andy tries to mention the name of a site for getting weather but as usual screws it up, weather from Tupac?

Crypto continues to be a fascinating story for news outlets to cover yet most may not understand what it is about. Justin recommends following Tim Pace for info on the technology. Microsoft deals with an Exchange server problem and Shawn breaks down some of the problems around it. Andy shares the Terryza PocketPC he featured on KMSB Fox 11

Andy talks about Google Pixel users now being able to get unlimited storage with those devices on the Photo site. Justin talks about his upgrade to the Pixel 5 and what he likes and what he misses. Shawn tells us the story about a video he shot that went viral in 2014. It is an easy video to locate, “I didn’t make this kid pass out on the floor.” Shawn shares with us the background of the Video and how it went all over including Jimmy Kimmel and CNN.
