EPISODE 334 – The Tech Behind News Reports

In this week’s show, Shawn, Justin, and Andy cover some of the Tech you may find behind the Local and even National News. For many News Reporters, or Multimedia Journalist, they are a One Person Band. Many times, a Journalist/Reporter will be asked to go into the field to cover a story and they are the Reporter, Camera Operator and Engineer for the Segment. Shawn tells us that about 90% of the On Scene Reports are now done this way. Justin and Shawn talk about the different pieces of technology that make this possible. Another trend in News Reports has been Stringers and how the local new audience can provide video from the scene of a news story.

Shawn and Justin tell us about stories they have done when working with TV News and one of the biggest was Shawn’s from Mecosta County “ I Didn’t Make that Kid Pass Out on the Floor” Segment which went viral and was featured on news stories across the country including Jimmy Kimmel. Justin shares his story of the Epic Fail Fox 5 News Jetpack video which hit over 3.3Million views on YouTube. A story has surfaced about Microsoft possibly including ads in the Launch Windows for Windows 11. The turns the focus to the business of Ad’s and Click throughs. With so many ads, how can they be minimized. Justin tells us about how easy it is to create a PiHoles with a Raspberry Pi device although, right now they are in High Demand.

Justin recommends Duck Duck Go as a search engine for those looking for privacy when searching online. A recent Ad campaign by them stresses the Privacy factor. Security with Passwords is discussed after Justin shares an Infographic from Hive Systems about creating the best password. The guys talk about Password Managers and which ones they like. With Justin’s announcement of a new job in the tech world the guys talk about Education and Degrees and what is important to get a step into working in Tech. Where should one begin? New Episode – Finding Bitcoin in the Couch Cushions..yes..it really happened..kind of

In this Weeks TechtalkRadio Show, its Andy Taylor Shawn DeWeerd and Justin Lemme on the show. Shawn has been busy working with the Sports schedule at the University and producing the sporting events and shares some of the biggest challenges in getting these done. Shawn gives us a look at the Wyze Light Bulbs and the ability to change some of the schemes all controlled by an App. Justin talks about why he ended up no longer using the Philips Hue system. Andy talks about the Wyze Cameras and how happy the Outdoor Camera has made his friends who bought the system. Andy shares a scary story which he calls his Social Dilemma moment regarding an Ad, fed to him on Instagram which hit too close to home. Andy notices that some of the quizzes which can reveal information used for passwords or verification have started to appear on Facebook and Twitter, this is dangerous for giving up info to those looking at your pages for information. The guys talk about personal data leaked online on Facebook. Justin tells us a way to read the envelope as to whether it is junk mail or not.

Shawn shares some info on a project he has been taking up for a Plex Server within his trailer while camping. He tells us what is unique about the 12v Raspberry Pi server and why he did it.
Justin talks about the uses he has found for Raspberry Pi and in the meantime builds a giant robot spider for some fun called a hexapod.

In this Weeks TechtalkRadio Show, the Crew misses Broadway and Amanda and wonders if Broadway was tending his chickens. Pokémon Go is still making a ton of money, Andy talks about how much money was made in a recent tournament. A Reporter from the Washington Post does a story about trying out the Amazon Alexa Enabled Glasses; he is quoted in the article saying they “drove him bananas” Dennis sends in a question regarding connecting the GoPro to his smart phone, Shawn talks about the process to make it happen.

Justin Shares a fun Website of the Week with us, it’s called Skribbl.io. It’s is similar to Pictionary for the Net and can be played randomly or with friends.
